Pre University Course comes to an end
As said earlier I used to walk across the fields to and from the college. During some season, there will be the green gram plants, which will emit a sweet smell when they are getting ready for harvesting. This naturally attracts people to pluck them raw and eat.
One evening when the visibility was a bit low, I was also attracted and plucked one bunch and was eating and walking through. There was a big noise from behind (scolding) and a person was running towards me. As he neared and identified me, suddenly his attitude changed. 'Thambi wait a minute, I will give some more, you take home'. He plucked about two kgs of the yield and gave me telling not to tell my father his initial response. I further got confused the respect and command my father had with these people - from other village also.
Time passed fast. Examination was over. No worry on the outcome.
And a pass in first class. But no plan for further studies were made.
The day for issue of certificates came. We all went to the college. Only limited staff were there. It started late, and it was promptly stopped for lunch. Some ten students were left out. While some students were requesting to give the certificate, the clerk did not budge.
As usual I just made a louder remark ' these people don't bother about us who have to go back and have lunch after at least an hour. they can't delay the lunch by some ten minutes'
This somehow reached the Principal, came to the office and instructed the administrative person to issue the certificates and then go for lunch. So sometimes being straight forward pays, only thing is we should be genuine. This character continued even later, though slightly polished.
