One Year Wasted or Learnt? ....2

During this one year period I had come across many incidences that uphold the traditional / herbal medicines over the allopathic treatment (or the approach of the doctors).

I had stepped on a thorn somewhere in the field. I did not pay much attention in complete removal of thorn. Somehow it appears the tip of the thorn remained inside. This became sceptic, and caused swelling and made walking difficult.

So I went to the General Hospital for treatment. I was operated and lot of things were scooped out from my right foot and bandage applied. They told everything is removed and I will be fine. Some medicines were giver for curing.

Days passed, pain remained and walking continued to be difficult. So I was mostly contained in the house which was against my desire.

One elderly person of our village looked at my foot and came forward to treat it. With half heart I agreed. Every day he will come with some varieties of leaves and mix with onion , heat it and tie it at the open wound. care was taken not to keep the heat bearable.

In a week to 10 days time the wound completed healed and I was back to the original condition. From then on this person became a friend of mine (age did not matter).He refused to take any payment for the treatment also.

We used to go for movies and return in the night by walk. One night when we were walking suddenly he asked me to stop. He sat for some time and then we resumed our walk and reached home.

Next day I saw his wife enquiring my father what time we came and whether I told any incidences. I was really blank on that question. Her husband while returning the previous night was bitten by a cobra (!) , that was the time he asked me to stop walking letting the snake to go away. He had taken some leaves he had in stock, squeezed and applied in the leg where probably he was bitten. Since it was dark I did not observe these things and he never told me also. In the morning he felt uncomfortable, and in spite of it he went out collected leaves and made a paste and applied in the leg and some other leaves. This caused suspicion and the enquiry followed.

Anyway he was alright the next day and showed us the teeth marks in the foot.

Unfortunately the secrets of these herbal treatment was not passed on to others for the benefit of the community.
