In the College . 1
This being the beginning year of the college, some works were going around and some cut pieces of materials used to lie on the ground, including class room.
In the class room , during maths class,I took one aluminium wire and made a wavy shape, used for drawing the separation line between maths problems. Person sitting next to me was making fun on this line drawing. The lecturer observed this, saw my lines and the wire. He gave his share of comment for about five minutes and ended 'will you use anything lying on the floor'. I answered, 'if I find useful I will take and use it. I do not see anything wrong'. A little shocked, he stopped and continued the class.
Next day as soon as he entered, asked me to stand up and started asking questions on whatever he taught in the previous class. Slowly it stretched to previous week and month, and I was answering all. Finally he said, so you knew I will question and came prepared. 'But in earlier times you asked only the previous day problems and today you have gone some months behind' was my answer.
He is a good singer and in the annual day he sang in both male and female voices very nicely. Though we had such conversations it was this lecturer who recommended my name for Inter collegiate group discussions.
Then was the Tamil lecturer. I used to put wrapper for the text and note books (school style! only difference is it won't be a brown paper). One day he has observed that one of my text book had a wrapper having the picture of an actress. He took on me and made a sermon in the class. That was the day when I felt humiliated. But whatever he said, he may not know that from the cartoon of the same magazine I have developed some concept and configure a fixture for our works.
Then comes the turn of the Physics lecturer. He was a Tamil loving person and talked more in Tamil. One day during the lesson on lenses and image generation, he asked a open question. Nobody answered. Then with confidence he offered coffee for all, if somebody answers. No response. He very sarcastically asked 'nobody knows the answer?' .
I stood up and said, 'I can give the answer but not for the coffee offered' and gave the answer, which was correct. His approach immediately changed and said you all please come to the canteen and take coffee. Anyway I didn't go to canteen.
What so ever, I kept answering the questions or replying to the comments , and never hesitated even if they come from superiors.
My handwriting used to be good. So for all school functions a black board will be kept at the entrance and welcome message and program details will be written by colour chalks. And will be the writer of those things.
During this period, I got a good friend, Muthiah (now Dr. Muthiah (PhD)) and the friendship continues even now.
